Text to 9-1-1

In today's increasingly digital world, texting is one of the most popular means of communication.
People are using text messaging in all aspects of their lives – including their interactions with Public Safety organizations, and although "Call if you can, text if you can't" is the official message regarding texting to 9-1-1, people may choose to send texts to 9-1-1 instead of calling in certain situations:
- It is not safe to make a voice call (ex. a domestic abuse situation or hostage crisis)
- The texter is Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- The mobile voice network is overloaded (ex. during a natural disaster or large-scale emergency incident)
- The texter feels more comfortable texting instead of calling
Currently, only around 8% of PSAPs accept text messages. This number is expected to continue to grow as more PSAPs continue their efforts to become truly Next Generation 9-1-1 ready.
After your Emergency Communication Center begins to accept Text to 9-1-1, recording, archiving, and easily accessing these emergency text messages is the necessary next step.
Wilmac offers Text to 9-1-1 management solutions that can:
- Reliably log all text messages
- Ensure secure storage
- Provide relevant metadata (date/time of text, network provider, cell phone number)
- Sync and display text messages on a timeline with relevant voice, video, and digital data
