Capturing Radio Audio: IP vs Analog

The preferred method of capturing radio audio in a P25 Trunked radio system is via IP. Methods of analog capture can be unreliable, difficult to search, and have little or no data available to the end user.

The question then becomes: why isn’t everyone recording P25 Trunked radio systems with IP? Doing so requires an integration with the radio vendor’s protocols, which differ by manufacturer. While portions of the P25 standard allow for a more vendor-agnostic approach to Voice Recording, this approach may not meet your needs. There also may be unforeseen limitations when proprietary radio system features are desired or required. These considerations for Voice Logging aren’t a high priority to radio system manufacturers, who tend to bundle into their offering whichever Voice Logging component is easiest for them.
